The past couple of weeks I have been revisiting my childhood by rewatching one of my favorite shows as a kid: Hannah Montana. That show had such an immense impact on my life for many reasons. One. I was absolutely inspired by Miley Stewart’s work ethic. She balanced being a global teen popstar while also being a normal girl that needed to keep up with her schoolwork and friendships. Two. The songs from this show are amazing. I actually have a couple in my Spotify playlist as we speak. Three. The styleeeeeeeee. The Hannah Montana costumes were the epitome of 2000s maximalist. There was layering, sparkles, denim all paired with some cowgirl boots. For this week, I decided to style four looks inspired by outfits from all four seasons of the show.

Look #1
For this look I wanted to translate this costume worn by Miley Cyrus in season 1 for a night out. I thought the red jacket with the sequined top was a little funky, but fun, so I paired a crimson leather jacket with a maroon sequined top. The top and jacket are both in the same color family, and would work well together. Of course, I had to channel Miley/Hannah’s country roots, so outfit includes a denim skirt and cowgirl boots.

Look #2
This dress from season 2 is just so 2000s, and makes me nostalgic of a simpler time. I love the print on the satin dress, and how the beaded straps on the halter neckline cross at the chest. To bring this look into the 2020s, I wanted to keep the satin dress, but one with an asymmetrical neckline. Then for jewelry, I chose simple dainty necklaces, a tennis bracelet, and drop earrings. The look I created is more of a loose interpretation of the Hannah Montana costume, but it’s something I would wear today.

Look #3
In season 3 of Hannah Montana, Hannah’s costumes moved in a different direction than previous seasons. The costume designers put together outfits with brighter and bolder colors. A kind of 80s vibe. They moved away from the country beginnings of Miley, and ushered in a more traditional pop star look. For the outfit I styled, I went for a 80s club night vibe with a feather print, jewel trimmed dress, blue tights, and silver heels.

Look #4
Season 4 of Hannah Montana was more Miley centered, so I picked one of her looks to take inspiration from. I paired a green canvas coat with a navy blue top and skort, brown belt with gold eyelets, and brown heeled leather boots. As the show progresses, we see Miley’s style evolve and mature. This look reminds us that Miley is still a normal teenage girl who moonlights as a pop star.
