My Recommendations from the Gap Factory Sale

Hello everyone! In the two years that I’ve been doing this blog, I’ve tried to steer clear of giving specific clothing recommendations. I did so once in this past article about engaging in fashion trends more sustainably. It’s my only post with direct recommendations so far. In light of the huge sale happening on the Gap Factory website, I wanted to share my recommendations of pieces that I believe are great affordable investments.

Quick Disclaimer: Gap Inc. is one of the largest fast fashion companies in the world. I know that we are trying to move away from these types of companies, but like me, not everyone is able to buy clothes from more expensive and sustainable retailers. In light of that, I try my best to shop less frequently from fast fashion retailers like Gap or H&M. Additionally, I really dig into the fabric composition to ensure that the clothes will last. If you want to learn more, here’s the link to Gap’s Impact Report from last year. With that, let’s get into pieces I would consider buying from this sale.

Pieces I would Consider Buying

Boatneck Tank Top

First, I have this gorgeous boatneck tank top. Because of global warming, summers have gotten hotter and hotter the past couple of years. It’s definitely challenging for those that are working in more professional settings to find clothing that aligns with the office dress code and combats the heat. This tank does that because the neckline is pretty modest, but the arms and armpits can still breathe. You could pair this with a light, a-line skirt or some linen pants. Outside the office, denim shorts would look great too for a more casual look. The fact that the top is 96% cotton and machine washable gives it some major brownie points. Overall,  this would be a great summer staple.

5″ Mid Rise Downtown Khaki Shorts

Growing up in the Texas heat, I couldn’t even consider wearing jeans in the summer. I practically live in shorts when I’m back home. These shorts are the perfect length, and they come in so many different colors. I would style these shorts with a light, loose button up, some sandals or flats, and crossbody. It’s a simple outfit to throw on when you have to run errands in the summer. To dress it up, I recommend adding some bracelets or a necklace with a smaller handbag instead of the crossbody.

Faux-Suede Handbag

This bag just screams Fall to me. The warm chocolate color of the suede brings me back to the cool crisp air of a Fall afternoon, and the sight of the leaves changing color. I’ve always believed that you should buy clothes and accessories one season early. I do this because since the piece is out of season, it’s on sale, and the pieces are usually “out of style” so no one is really wearing it anymore. By buying these types of items, I worry less about looking like everyone else. Though this bag screams Fall, you could also style it for summer by adding a brightly colored scarf to the bag. One heads up is that the bag is a bit smaller than the photos suggest. An anonymous reviewer said that the bag held their “phone, wallet and keys with space to spare”.

Icon Denim Jacket

Who doesn’t love a denim jacket? They’re a pretty simple clothing piece, but everyone needs at least one in their closet. Denim jackets are perfect for cool summer nights when you’re freezing in your sleeveless top or for layering over something else in the Fall or Spring. I bought a very similar denim jacket to this one, but in black, in November, and I wear it all the time. It’s comfortable, easy to style, and the right thickness. This blue denim jacket is 100% cotton which means that it’s more likely to last long. On top of that, it has that worn, muted look which makes it easier to style in my opinion.
