This is going to be a really quick post because I am in the midst of finals season and I need to focus on my exams, but I wanted to give you guys a little tip in terms of exam preparation: dress up for your exams.
You may be thinking “what do you mean dress up for your exams?” I mean pick out a cute outfit, maybe do your hair, put on a little makeup. Just put on your best fit. I know a lot of people usually wear sweats when they have an exam. I get it. You want to be comfortable when you’re taking an hour plus long exam, but you can also look comfy and cute at the same time.
The reason I suggest you all to dress up for your exams is because a couple weeks ago I was taking a Chem test, and the night before I chose to intentionally pick out a cute outfit. You know what I got on that Chem exam: AN A. That was the first time I had ever gotten an A on a chem exam this semester. Part of that was because I studied all week, but another part was because I felt like I looked nice that day.
It really is true that if you look good, you feel good. When you know you look good, your confidence is boosted and that can change your entire mindset. The entire week I was feeling so stressed about the exam because I needed to do well in order to boost my grade. Those feelings dissipated when I walked into the classroom because I felt confident in my outfit. Feeling confident in my outfit made me feel confident in my knowledge of the course material.
You see it’s kind of like the ripple effect. The confidence in my outfit affected the confidence in my knowledge on thermochemistry.
There are probably studies on this, but I feel like how your appearance affects your mindset.
Next time you’re taking an exam, I challenge you all to put in a little extra effort on your appearance. Maybe wear earrings, brush your hair, put on your favorite shoes, or even apply a full face of makeup. Do whatever makes you feel confident.
Earlier I promised that this article would be short, but I’m not sure I did that. Anyways, thank you all for reading this week’s article. Make sure to subscribe to be notified of new posts. Stay sharp π
