Hello Everyone! I hope you all are having an amazing holiday season. Today I am here to bring you all the 3rd installment of my series “How to Beat the College Admissions Process”.
At this point in the College Admissions Process, you have most likely submitted all of your applications and maybe even received some acceptances. Fingers crossed. Soon, you will be able to relax, but there are a couple of things you need to get done first.
College Interviews
Some schools conduct interviews with applicants, and these opportunities are a really great way to show the admissions committee that you are the right candidate for the next freshman class. The interviews are typically conducted by a local alumnus and they can be in person or sometimes over Zoom.
If you have the opportunity to do an interview, say yes, and try to go in person if you have the resources and time. The interview could be the difference of you getting or not getting accepted, and it’s also a great way for you to learn more about the school.
Here are Some Tips I have for Acing your Interview
- Dress Professionally: I recommend some slacks, a button up, nice dress, and/or a blazer.
- Do Practice Interview Questions
- Research the School: Find specific clubs, classes, and/or school-specific events you can mention during the interview.
- Show up at least 10 minutes early.
- Have little anecdotes you can fall back on and connect to your best characteristics.
Scholarships
Since you’re done applying to schools, you have more time to apply for scholarships. I recommend creating a spreadsheet to keep track of the scholarships you have/haven’t applied to yet. A lot of the big ones have deadlines in the next couple of months so keep an eye out.
Below are some of my favorite scholarship finders.
The one thing I will say about applying to scholarships is that you have to apply to a lot of them if you want to increase your chances. Also, apply to the ones that require essays and videos. Less people apply to these scholarships because they require more work.
I hope you guys enjoyed this installment. The next one will be posted on April 1st. For now, take a break, apply to some scholarships, and enjoy your senior year.
