Just because a piece of clothing or an accessory trends, consumers are pressured to buy it immediately without a second thought. Instead of developing our own personal styles, we tend to follow the newest trends. For example, does anyone remember that green corset top that everyone wore a couple of years ago?
In theory, this top was pretty cute, but it just wasn’t very practical. It was great cinching waists, but personally I never really saw people wearing these tops beyond Tik Tok and Instagram videos. After a couple of months of this corset trending, it pretty much ceased to exist on social media. Like a trend it came and went.
This top in particular didn’t last in closets, but other corsets could. I don’t recommend buying the corset above, but I do recommend buying other corsets that can be worn on a more daily basis.
This one for example, is a corset like the one above, but there are many more options for styling. You can pair this corset with jeans for a simple day out. White linen pants would be great for a brunch with friends. For a night out, a mini skirt would work perfectly. A corset like this one has a greater shelf life in your closet.
Here’s another example. Remember those tiny sunglasses were trending a couple of years ago.
These glasses looked really cute in photos, but were extremely impractical for everyday wear. They’re terrible at protecting your eyes from the sun, and styling them is difficult. Though I don’t recommend buying these sunglasses in particular, they do have some stylish elements: a cool cat eye shape and sleek look. These elements can be found in other sunglasses like the ones below.
Each pair has is similar to the trendy ones, but they’re actually practical. The first pair has that cat eye look and the second is sleek. Unlike the trendy pair though, both actually protect your eyes.
I hope you all can see that that trends come and go, and they’re not necessarily sensible at times. This is why you should never immediately buy what’s trending. Try to evaluate the trend and think about what elements you like most about it. Then, find other pieces of clothing or accessories that contain these elements.
Next time another trend comes along be sure to think about whether you’re buying into it because you like the trend or because it’s popular.
Thank you all for reading this week’s post. Make sure to subscribe to be notified of new ones. Stay sharp 😉
