Hello Everyone! I’m so glad you’re back this week. I sincerely apologize for not posting last week. My Spring Break was pretty jam packed, but I promise that I’ll try not to let it happen again in the future. Anyways, for this week’s post, I was planning on reviewing all the books I read during Spring Break, but sadly this plan has changed a little.
Here’s some context. I packed 4 books in my suitcase with plans to read them all over Spring Break. In hindsight, this was a very ambitious goal, but ambitious is my middle name. Let’s just say that by the end of the week, I only read 1 book, and the other 3 sat tucked away in my suitcase. My goal this year is to read 40 books as it has been for the last 2 years. I’ve always been able to complete this goal, but this year, I’m not sure I can because of one obstacle: college.
There’s always some paper to write, some test to study for, or some meeting to attend. I never have any time to read, and it sucks. I’m 6 books behind schedule for the Goodreads Reading Challenge, and I feel like I have no way to catch up.
Since feeling this way, I’ve begun to wonder why completing this goal has been so important to me. The number of books on the reading challenge is really just an arbitrary number. I could have a goal of 4, 40, or 400. At the end of the day, what really matters is if I’m reading. This year, I’m going to try and focus less on the number of books I’m reading, and more about reading in general. So, this week, I am reviewing the one book I did have time to read.
Fantastical creatures, heart-wrenching romance, and a found family. That’s what the A Court of Thorns and Roses series is all about. I read the first book in the series December 2022, and I didn’t feel disappointed, but I didn’t feel wowed. Because of this, I didn’t consider reading the 2nd book. As I’m writing my Christmas list last year, I began thinking of what books I wanted to add. I sat thinking and thinking, and I thought why not add A Court of Mist and Fury. It’s the 2nd book in the ACOTAR series, and after reading some of the reviews, I thought I would give it a try.
It’s safe to say that I’m so glad I went back to the series. After reading the third book, A Court of Wings and Ruin, I felt so impressed by Sarah J. Mass. She expertly weaves romance and fantasy elements so seamlessly; you don’t get confused by the fantasy parts, but you also don’t get bored by having too much romance. As a lover of romance, it felt really nice to expand and dip my toe into fantasy with a romantasy book.
ACOWAR has less romance than ACOMAF, but it still hooked me. I stayed up till 3 am the night before my 7 am flight to read it, but it was well worth it. My plan is to finish the book series this summer, so stay tuned by my in depth review then.
I only read one book during Spring Break, and that’s okay because I’m still satisfied. I can’t wait to read so many books this summer, and not worry about my reading challenge. If you feel so compelled, click here to purchase ACOWAR.
