Hello Everyone! I hope you all are having a somewhat good week. Vogue just announced the dress code and hosts for the 2024 Met Gala. When I saw this post, I was a bit startled because to tell the truth, I had forgotten that the Met Gala was a thing.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a die hard fan of anything that has to do with gowns that are also pieces of art. It’s just that in recent years, I haven’t really been that dazzled by some of the themes. There have been some amazing looks, but as a whole, the Met Gala has been a bit lackluster compared to previous years. To be honest, there have been so many Met Galas that I bet designers are really pulling everything out of them to create new looks each year. Some will hit and some will miss. That’s what fashion is all about: experimenting new ideas.
The 2024 Met Gala
The 2024 Met Gala theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. The title is definitely intriguing, so I’m excited for this year. The dress code which is “The Garden of Time” on the other hand worries me a little. I feel like so many people are going to take the theme so literally, and it’s going to be a bunch of floral dresses. There’s probably even going to be a couple men wearing a simple suit with a little flower pinned to their blazer. Most of the men that attend the ball never put in the work like some of the other attendees. It’s so sad.
Anyways, while I was doing research for this article I found out that the Costume Institute at the Met isn’t even open all year long. If you didn’t know, the Met Gala is put on to raise money for the Costume Institute at the Met Gala. The tickets for the Met Gala are absurdly expensive($50,000 in 2023) because the money goes to the year-round maintenance and repair of the costumes in the Institute. Consequently, it’s funny to me that a place so well funded is only open for part of the year.
In light of my remembrance of the Met Gala, I wanted to take a walk down memory lane, and point out some of my favorite looks from the past 20 years.
My Favorite Looks
I hope you all enjoyed looking at my favorite Met Gala outfits from the past because it was so much fun pulling all of these together. I can’t wait to see this year’s looksespecially past attendee/a 2024 co-chair Zendaya. Also, if you want to see more looks from past years click this link.
