Hello everyone! I hope you are all having an amazing 2024 so far and if you aren’t that’s totally okay. You still have 355 days to make it amazing. Last year, I read 40 books, and some were good, some were bad, and some were meh. Today I’m going to be talking about my top 4 books of 2023, and why you all should read them.
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
I read Yours Truly, Summer 2023 and it was instantly one of my favorite romance romance books of all time. Abby Jimenez did a fantastic job with the characters especially. The main characters Briana and Jacob in this novel face so many challenges, but still keep going which makes them so endearing and lovable. The way the 2 love interests love each other is so beautiful, and I really loved reading about their love story. As I’m writing this review, I’m getting tears in my eyes because of how good this book was. If you’re into the fake dating trope with a cinnamon love interest, read this book now.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
I finally read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder last year, and it was 100% worth the purchase. Murder mysteries are some of my absolute favorites because I like the anxiety they give me. I love to be on the edge of my seat, and solve the mystery as the book progresses. That is exactly what I did with A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. It felt like I was unraveling the mystery with Pip(the main character) as I read the book which was so fun. Holly Jackson created this perfect web of plot points throughout the book, and tied them all expertly at the end. She made me question which characters I could truly trust, and the actual culprit’s motive. If you like a murder mystery with a little romance sprinkled in, get this book now.
The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
The Inheritance Games Series has been one of my favorite series for the past couple of years, and I finally got my hands on a paperback version of the 3rd book, and it was mind blowing. This installment was not definitely not how I expected the first era of this series to end, but that’s what made it even more interesting. I was so shocked by all of the twists and turns in this book. I never knew what was going to happen next. That’s why it was one of my top four books. Like always, it was interesting getting to dissect all the Hawthorne brothers and their complicated relationship with Avery as they are all so close with each other. If you like books that feel like puzzles with satisfying endings, read this series.
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I have so much to say about this book, but I’m going to keep it short. While I was reading Carrie Soto is Back, I felt so conflicted because I didn’t really support what the main character was doing, but I also understood why she was doing it. There were times when I was rooting for her and other times when I just wanted her to stop. I was so invested in the main character Carrie’s story and journey that I read this book in a day; I couldn’t put it down. Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favorite authors because she writes books with characters that are so complex and have such intricate backgrounds. She hooks you from the beginning, and that is exactly what happened when I read the first few pages of this book. If you like historical fiction and a heroine that makes a comeback, put Carrie Soto is Back on your tbr list.
As I picked out my top 4 books for 2023, I’m not gonna lie, I struggled a little. Originally I was going to pick out 5, but I only found 4. Thus, for 2024 my plan is to be open to other genres and authors. I may even read more books by male authors. (We’ll see about that)
Thank you for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed this week’s article, and maybe found a book or two that you’ll read this year. Make sure to subscribe to be notified of new posts. Stay sharp 😉
Wow! Your collection is pretty diverse. I usually stick to a few genres and for male authors, Franklin W. Dixon tops my list. Feel free to check out his works!
